The Society of St Vicent de Paul.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international Catholic Organisation
founded in Paris in 1833 by Frederick Ozanam and his companions. At the
Sorbonne University, a group of catholic students were challenged to prove
by their actions that the church has a role to play in tacking the social
problem, which abounded. Frederick Ozanam, an outstanding young man, took
up the challenge and with a small group of his fellow student, set out
to do what he could to ease at least some of the suffering of the poorest
of the poor around him. Within a few short years, the society had grown
across the world. Today there are groups in more than 130 countries, with
more than 900,00 members. The society has been active in England and Wales
since 1844 and so has over 150 years of experience in the areas of financial
and other needs.

The S.V.P's Aim is helping the homeless, visiting the sick, clothing
the naked, feeding the hungry, helping the elderly. Those who have no
close relatives or can only be visited occasionally, may feel left out
at visiting times, when it seems that everyone else has someone who cares
about them. The SVP meets on Monday evenings at 7.30pm in the presbytery,
we are always looking for new members, anyone in the parish who is willing
to give just a little of their time are welcome. We are especially looking
for a secretary. If you are interested, talk to Audrey or Father Keith
for more information.
